Your TV Behind the Ballot Candidates Debate

May 15, 2018 | News, President & CEO News Articles

Last week officially started the Provincial election campaign to determine the future of our Province.  Over the next four weeks, it is imperative that every voter in this Province, look at the platforms of each party and decide which one will lead us through the next four years.  The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce encourages all legal age residents to make sure they are registered to vote and more so, get out to vote on June 7.

Tomorrow night (Tuesday, May 15, 2018), the Chamber with YourTV will host and televise the first area debate at Ecole Secondaire Publique Odyssee, commencing at 7:00 p.m.  The evening will be moderated by Mike Monaghan from 106.3 FM-The Moose and should generate some interesting debate amongst the candidates.  It will be televised live on YourTV North Bay and will be re-aired up until the election.

The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce encourages all businesses to review the Ontario Chamber of Commerce “Vote for Prosperity” 2018 election campaign.  The campaign focuses on returning confidence to our business sector in this Province, which has seen a marked decrease in that confidence, according to business surveys conducted over the past few years by the Ontario Chamber.  The campaign focuses on four pillars; Strengthening Business Competitiveness, Fostering Job Creation, Building Healthy Communities and Improving Government Accountability.  All parties have been asked to provide their positions based on the four pillars.  Check the campaign and updates at   www.occ.ca/vote-prosperity2018/.

Over the past week, our Board had some changes as well.  Due to work commitments in her new role with Chartwell Retirement Residences, Elizabeth Evans reluctantly, resigned.  We wish Elizabeth the very best and a huge thank you to her, for the dedication and work ethic that she brought to the Board.  Given the vacancy, the Board announced last Thursday, the appointment of Tessa Clermont, Executive Director with the Military Family Resource Centre to fill the vacancy.  We are looking forward to welcoming Tessa to the Board and the skill sets that she brings.  Congratulations and welcome to Tessa.

As the warm weather starts to show up on a more consistent basis, we want to remind our community that the annual North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce Charity Golf Tournament is coming up on July 5.  Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the North Bay & Area Community Foundation for the second year in a row and they are a deserving cause who assist so many other groups throughout our district.  Our thanks to our major sponsor, Deacon Wealth Management who have promised excellent weather for the day.  Some sponsorship packages are available but are filling up fast.  Give us a call at the Chamber office and enter your foursome for a great day of golf and comradery.

Peter Chirico is the President & CEO of the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce.
